Southbend Cahill Fly Rod 6 wt.
I was given this rod as a gift. Action is very weak and slow. I like a traditional action rod, but this one is too slow. My main complaint is the reel seat. It is down locking, made of cheap plastic, and difficult to take a reel on and off. $45 at a Bass Pro would get you a 100% graphite rod with an aluminum reel seat. The rod did have one positive aspect. It made me realize that I need to add a quality 6 wt. rod to my collection of 4 wts.

crystal river cahill fly rod
I recently received this fly rod for a gift. I have never fly fished before. I took a class with a Registered Maine Guide. He was very impressed with my rod and the ease of casting without tying a beginner upwith lots of expensive equipment. I broke my gift rod 2 days after the class by leaning it in a doorway and closing the door on it. PANICK!! Luckily you had the exact same rod and I also got the case for future protection.

South Bend Crystal River Cahill Fly Rod
I have been fly fishing for three years now, and have tried a cpl of the cheap' (Not inexpensive, but cheap) 'combos' from Wal Mart and never could cast them..so, i got tired of them and went back to casting rigs. Then I tried a cpl expensive rods my friends had, and they were much better than the 'cheapos' but I could not afford them.. Then, this year, my wife and kids bought me this rod and I'd put it up against rods costing hundreds of dollars. It is 'inexpensive' but it ain't cheap'..It is very slow action compared to my other rod, but I loaded it with weight forward line, and I can now cast it 50-60 feet and put it exactly where I want it, which is VERY important if you want to catch fish. I give this rod 5 stars plus. Dollar per dollar IMHO it is the BEST rod on the market today!!! Chuck Alexander

rod
This is the best rod I have ever fly fished with and my buddy who is a guide introducing fly fishing, was surprised at the quality for price. Much better than high priced ones.

You get what you pay for
I didn't expect much because of the price. But the rod is not that spectacular as the other reviews boast. The rod has little flex, and the reel seat maybe made of aluminum but I think it's plastic. It's so chincy if you drop this thing on a rock it's going to break. I bought this as a small creek pole and I don't plan to use it much so it will work for my needs. If you want something you can use all the time, I'd look into cabelas small creek line and llbeans streamline series.
