For the Money
The kids gave me this rod for Christmas (10 wt.) for salmon. My five star rating is based on the quality/price ratio. Good rod for my once or twice a year use - primarily short casts. They also gave me a Trion reel, and it's drag works adequatelly as well.

Pflueger Trion rod/reel
I've just received this outfit and haven't had a chance to fish with it, so my 4 star rating is tentative. I did get to handle an identical outfit that was raffled by my fly fishing club. I liked it a lot, and so did everyone else who whipped it around. The member who won it, a man whose opinion I value, says it casts beautifully. I had been waiting for the ideal 8-weight, and I think this is it. The prices are surprisingly low for a rod and reel of such apparently high quality.

OK, now I've fished it
I used the Trion 8-weight outfit all day for the last weekend in April, fishing from Everglades City, FL. Arm fatigue? None at all. It's a wonderful rod. After swapping mine back and forth with the other two Trion owners in my fly club, I had decided to overline very slightly with an inexpensive (about $25) WF 9-weight from Bass Pro Shops. It's lightweight for a 9, and loads very nicely on the 8-weight Trion rod. The rod and wide-arbor Trion reel are both light. The action is medium-fast. The whole setup is almost effortless and very satisfying to use. My biggest catch that weekend was a 5-pound jack crevalle, which the outfit handled easily. I'm very glad I bought it, My other flyrods are Loomis, Orvis, Winston and an old (but very good) fiberglass Fenwick I've had since 1976. Except for the Fenwick, they are expensive rods (and worth every dollar they cost)but none of them feel more natural in my hand than this delightful Pflueger. It's a wonderful surprise to find a rod and reel this good at a price this low, without having to compromise. I'm hoping Pflueger will produce a 3 or 4-piece version in a 7-weight...but if not,I'm likely to buy one as a 2-piece anyway.

plueger trion rod (6/7, 8/9, 10/11)
as an ex-guide that got 'pro-form price' on winston bl5's (that i believe to the best saltwater rod available), i'll give you a comparison. they're quite a bit heavier (especially in the butt), this will add to fatigue over a long day of casting in the wind. but this rod earns it's stars for what you get for the price, it casts accurately and far!! these rods are replacing my old sages for back up rods on my flats boat. i would also say load them w/ the heavier line weight.

Good rod for the money!
This is a very nice mas produced rod for the money. Good action and it casts nicely. It's light weight reduces fatigue and it even came with a case. For under $100 i can't see how you can beat it.
