OKUMA Sierra Reel
For quality at an affordable price, it's hard to beat OKUMA products. This little reel has fought speckled and brown trout all summer, including a 19.5' brown that made three drag-stripping runs. The disc drag performs better than most of this type, as many of them are sticky at the start. The construction is simple yet rugged. The drag adjustment knob is a bit small for clumsy cold fingers, but otherwise this is good value in an entry-priced reel.

I have owned several reels in the past but have found none with this quality for the price. It is durable, quiet, and most of all reliable.the disc drag is excellent ot is smooth and has a very wide adjustment.

Okuma Sierra S 5/6
For the money, this reel can't be beat! And at the price these guys are offering it for you can't go wrong. I own three of them under different manufacturer's names, although I suspect they are actually manufactured by Okuma for the other brands. I have the identical reel under the Reddington brand (The 'Redfly 5/6')and bought another from Cabelas called their 'Prestige.' Both of these cost me $50, and I thought they were a bargain at that price. Although I didn't need another I ran into it under the Okuma brand name up at the general store in Roscoe NY for just $42 and it seemed too good a bargain to pass up. I love the reel because of its drag. My main five weight reel before this had been an Orvis Battenkill which cost twice the highest price I have paid for this Okuma product and, I have to tell you, I hate the Battenkill drag by comparison. The Battenkill is not any smoother and it has an annoying bit of 'travel' before the drag engages. The Okuma is far more adjustable, and is incredibly smooth, even with a 9 lb Brown trout ripping out line (up at Oak Orchard). Sure you can spend more for a reel, but the action and fishability of this product is far superior to those of much more expensive reels I own. Many will like that it makes no clicking noise as you reel in line and others won't. The previous review of this reel on this site said that the only problem with it is that the direction cannot be reversed from lefty to righty by the user. This is not true. They give you a tool with it that allows you to pry out the bearing and reverse it on your own. Again, if I didn't have so many of this identical reel I'd be buying another at the $32 price. I am, however, going back to the site and seeing if they have this reel in an 8 wt or larger size for that same price I'll snap it up in a second.

Okuma Sierra S 5/6
This reel is probebly one of the best quality reel you will get for the money. I bought one at a fly shop here where I live for about $50.00 and when I saw the price of it on this site I was amazed. Buying this reel from troutlet.com will save you money. I've had this reel for about 3 years. The only reason a rated it a four is because you can't swich the drag direction from left to right. When you buy it you have to order it the way you want it. I also rate it a four because I dropped the spool on a very hard rock once. Now diecast aluminum doesn't bend when it hit a hard surface. It chips. So now I have this little chip on the rim of my spool. The chip catches my line when I try to stip it out sometimes. Then again...good quallity fly reels aren't ment to be dropped. They are ment to be put on you fly rod and fished with! This reel is the best. Just get it with the right drag direction and don't drop it. I have dropped other fly reels. They all either bend or chip. If they bend you can bend them back to the disired shape. If they chip make sure you can replace the part. I was able to find spare spools on troutlet.com. This fly reel has an excellent drag system that will fetch the fancy of any fly fisherman. And when you retrieve or reel the line back in...It doesn't make a loud click click ckick. It's quiet. They way fishing should be. It doesn't make a sound. When the fish hits though you will be dazzled with a spine tingling- one-of-a-kind zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz scream of the drag. The drage can be controled by the knob on the back or by the tention but on by the palm of your hand. Just place the palm of your hand on the botton of the reel against the rip of the spool. Apply slight tention. Just the amount you want, instead of wondering how much drag does this ajustment of the knob put on? By a palm reading you will know what pressure you fish is dealing with. It's the way I fight my big 'uns. This fly reel is my very favorite. It fits perfectly on a Cortland CL 4/5 rod. The hand of the reel even matches the reelseat on that rod. The reel is a beauty too. On any rod you will be amazed with it's classic beauty. Keep it shiney. Keep the dust off of it. Use it. It will make you fishing fun and always keep the drag loose. Be prepared for the MONSTER and get your palm ready. If you've read this far. You've forgotten about what happens when you drop this real. Always hold it like it's no one business. It's a real you will never get rid of. 'FEEL THE POWER' with Okuma® Sierra S Fly Reel.
