Decent
I bought the SLV 7/8 because I have so much invested in higher end rod/reels. I am very pleased with the reel, I use it primarly with a sink tip in rivers big flies. The only issue with the reel is that the drag adjustment is very sensitive and there is no particular setting levels, it is free flowing. Don't get me wrong, very happy with the reel, it is a great value but in total performance it does not measure up to the higher price large arbor. Would recommend for anyone looking for a single purpose reel.

Fly Fishing Bum
I just purchased an SLV 89 and I was blown away by how light the reel is. I do not think that you could buy a better reel for 5 times the money. I have yet to fish with it but my first impression is that Okuma made themselves one heck of a reel for the price. I am already considering buying a second one.

Great drag and price, smooth
I can't get over how smooth the action of this reel is. Extremely pleased so far. Just received my SLV 56 after extensive reading of customer reviews on various websites for reels in this price range. Those reviews were very favorable. Now I understand why. 1. Very impressed with the drag. The drag can be very gradually adjusted from extremely light to full stop. The line take-out against the drag isn't ratchety in the least...it remains very smooth with very fine increments even as the drag is varied through the whole range of drag adjustment. Also, being able to palm the rim of this spool is a nice option whenever that type of tactile feedback is desired in the middle of a fight. 2. Easily converts from LH to RH...took only 4 minutes to remove the nickel-sized spool cover, flip an internal cylinder, then reinstall the cover...needed a very small phillips head screwdriver, though, for the 2 small screws. 3. I like the reel's satin finish and silver/grey/clay color. The neutral color will be versatile on a couple of my rods. 4. Glad I purchased the larger SLV56 (vs the SLV45) for my 4wt rod due to the greater backing capacity of 100+ yds. Yet the weight of the SLV56 at 5.3oz is still light enough to balance on my 3.4oz 9' 4wt rod. Love it!

Okuma SLV 7/8
As typical for most OKUMA reels, this one offers great value for the dollar. For cast-aluminum reel (as opposed to machined) it is surprising tight-fitting, with very little wobble in the spool. It has decent line & backing capacity without being too bulky, and is also very light-weight for a reel in this size. It's also kind of cool looking, but the real story is that it's a very good entry-price reel. Commendations to Troutlet for representing this line so well.
