Daiwa Heartland Tournament Trout Rod DAIHLT492ULF
I bought this rod several months ago and have given it a reasonable workout since then. I originally intended it as a small stream trout spinning rod for which I wanted something short due to the often overgrown streams I fish. Using small spinners, spoons, hardbodies and SPs up to 7g this is an excellent rod and represents fantastic value for money, delivering much more than expected with deceptive fish fighting power. I now run this rod with a shimano ultegra 1000 reel using 4lb fireline with which it balances beautifully, though am planning to drop down to 2lb crystal fireline as soon as i can get hold of some. I have also used this rod fairly extensively in more diverse environments where its shortness is a disadvantage such as spinning off ocean rocks for australian salmon and wrasse, and when estuary lure fishing for fish such as flathead and searun trout or lake trouting however this rod is such a joy to use that it often gets used while more appropriate tackle is left behind. It also excells as a kayak rod for light tackle luring. As a IM6 rod it may not be as crisp as the far more expensive higher grade graphites but being so short this is not a bad thing as it is slightly more forgiving than a similar length higher modulus rod would be. The marginal increase in weight relative to a higher modulus rod is also negligible due to the rod's shortness. The cork grips are comfortable and fit my hands well though in an ideal world the rear grip would be slightly shorter and the real-seat would be downlocking and one that was integrated into the foregrip to avoid an exposed thread. For a small stream spinning rod this model is hard to beat representing outstanding performance and value.

Light Action Heartland Tournament Trout Rod
I bought the light action version of the Heartland Tournament Trout Rod to replace a Quantum ultra-light. There is no industry standard, so 'light action' is not uniform from one company to the next. That said, the light action rod from Diawa is very light. There was no discernible difference between the light Diawa and the ultra-light Quantum. I returned it. The handle, reel seat and guides were decent quality. For the price, I wouldn’t mind the Heartland Tournament Trout Rod if I wanted another ultra-light. Again: The light action rod is very light.

    DAIWA TROUT ROD 6'
I USE THIS ROD FOR DEEP WATER BOBBER FISHING FOR BLUEGILL IN MID SUMMER AND EARLY FALL. I NEEDED SOMETHING WITH A LIGHT ENOUGH ACTION TO HANDLE 4LB TEST LINE AND LONG ENOUGH TO SET THE HOOK QUICKLY IN DEEP WATER. THE 4'6' ULTRA LIGHT RODS THAT ARE OUT THERE, DO NOT TAKE ENOUGH SLACK OUT OF THE LINE WHEN YOU SET THE HOOK AND GIVE YOU LESS CONTROL THAN A LONGER ROD WHEN FIGHTING THE FISH . THE SHORTER ROD RESULTS IN MANY MISSED FISH. THE LONG 9 FOOT RODS ARE TOO CUMBERSOME AND DIFFICULT TO TRANSPORT. THIS 6 FOOT ROD IS LONG ENOUGH TO CONTROL THE FISH AND TAKE SLACK OUT OF THE LINE WHEN SETTING THE HOOK AND HAS A VERY NICE LIGHT ACTION. I WOULD CONSIDER IT TO BE ULTRA-LIGHT ACTION. IT IS PERFECT FOR MY NEEDS. IT CASTS VERY WELL AND IS EASY TO CAST LIGHT BOBBERS AS WELL AS LIGHT LURES. A VERY GOOD ROD FOR THE PRICE.(UNDER $50) I WOULD PURCHASE IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT

    Perfect Trout Rod
Ah, finally I have a beautiful rod for all my stream trout needs. I'm about as picky as they come when it comes to my light tackle gear because In my opinion you need everything to be perfect when you get a big fish on light tackle. I bought the 6' light action version and it's easily the best trout rod on the market. It has great sensitivity for those lite bitting trout while bait fishing but also has great action to launch small spinners and rapalas a good long distance. It does lack backbone so if your looking to horse a fish in I recommend a heavier rod but that's not what light tackle fishing is all about in my opinion. I used #6 fireline with this rod and had no problems at all. If you need a good trout spinning rod do yourself a favor and get one of these.
